Broom House Farm Visit

Year 3 had a wonderful day visiting Broom House Farm! We spent the morning touring the farm with Jo and saw all the animals in their pens and barns. We had a question and answer session with the shepherdess, who knew everything about sheep. Her sheep dog was very good at her job!

In the afternoon, we went to the adventure forest and had an amazing time climbing, swinging and go – karting. We were muddy and tired and enjoyed everymoment!

Great North Museum – Stone Age to Iron Age

Year 3 had an amazing time at the Great North Museum! We explored all of the different galleries but our favourite by far was the Ice Age to Iron Age gallery. We took part in a scavenger hunt and we found lots of ancient artefacts including tools, weapons, fossils and more. Throughout the day, each class took part in a workshop. During the workshop, we got to handle different artefacts from the Stone Age and Bronze Age, we matched the items to their names and had to decide whether our items were from the Stone Age or the Bronze Age. The Bronze Age tables had a bronze sword which they used to display in their homes. We even got to see and feel a woolly mammoth’s tusk!

Science – Rocks

We have started our new Science topic. We have enjoyed sorting and grouping different rocks. We worked in groups to discuss the different properties of the rocks and this helped us classify them. We learned about rock types. Did you know there are igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks?

Art

In Art, we have learned about William Morris and how he began the Arts & Crafts movement. We have studied his textiles and his passion for printing. We created our own printing blocks and have begun to experiment with pattern.

PE

We are developing our dance skills in P.E this term. This week we began the lesson with a circle of trust activity. We took turns to enter the circle and show off a dance move! This is helping us perform to an audience and build our confidence. We then moved to music using our bodies to follow the rhythm.

First week!

We are so excited to have you in Year 3. We have been getting to know each other better and learning all about friendships, families and mental health in PSHE this week. We wrote down what we would like to be excellent at by the end of Year 3 and created a time capsule which we will open at the end of the year. We really enjoyed voting for our school council representative!

We have read ‘Stone Age Boy’ in Literacy and we have created some fantastic storyboards. We can’t wait to continue to explore this story. During Maths, we have been learning about place value, we used base ten to help us partition our numbers into tens and ones. We challenged ourselves to make a 2-digit number in different ways using base ten.
