In Art, Year 2 have been learning about the work of Yayoi Kusama. She is a Japanese artist often known as the ‘Princess of polka dots’. This week we have enjoyed creating some sculptures inspired by her pumpkin art. We practiced rolling, kneading, pinching and cutting. We had fun obliterating some pumpkins with dots too!
This week, Year 2 visited Lumley Castle and what an exciting day it was! We took a tour around the castle and Master Kevin was very impressed with what we already knew! We designed our own coat of armour, listened to spooky castle stories and even put Mrs Burnicle in the stocks!
Year 2 are learning all about castles. This week, we’ve enjoyed reading the story, ‘The Very Last Castle’ by Travis Jonker. In Literacy, we asked our very own guard some interesting questions about the spooky castle!
Welcome to Year 2. What a fantastic start we’ve had! In PSHE, we have read ‘The Colour Monster’ and talked about how we manage our feelings. In Literacy, we wrote acrostic poems about why we love Valley Road. We voted our class councillor and even had a grand unveiling of our new outdoor classroom. The children have all settled in well and are so excited for their learning journey.
