Al Sylvester

Al Sylvester MBE visited us in school to talk about some of his expeditions. Al Sylvester is an explorer who has worked for the Mountain Rescue Service. He talked to us about his exciting experiences exploring the Himalayas. He taught us about how important determination and perseverance were during his expeditions and how we can apply these skills in our own lives.

World Book Day

To celebrate world book day, we dressed up as our favourite characters and completed activities linked to the book “Flooded” by Mariajo Ilustrajo. After reading the story, we wrote a newspaper report about the events of the flood and how everyone should work together.

Vocal Showcase

Year 5 visited 1719 to perform two songs and watch two other schools perform their songs. The children were fantastic and sang beautifully. Everyone represented the school superbly and they should all be proud of their performance.

Number Day

For number day we completed lots of mathematical challenges, raced to complete tasks and put our times table skills to the test. Well done to everyone who took part and made a donation, which goes to the NSPCC.

Hockey

Year 5 attended a hockey festival at the Raich Carter, where we spent the morning practicing our hockey skills and playing matches against other schools. Everyone showed good team work and encouraged each other during each match.

Science Workshop

Super Science! In the build to National Science week, we were visited by a science professor. We watched different experiments and had the opportunity to be part of some. We will continue to build on our knowledge next week.

Bikeability

Bikeability visited school this week for Year 5. Some Year 5 students took part in the bikeability course which involved going out on the roads to ride their bikes with the bikeability instructors. They taught us about how to stay safe when riding a bike, especially when cycling on the roads.
