Reading
We will read a variety of texts and stories linked to our studies of the seas, oceans and seaside. Our main stories are The Lighthouse Keepers Stories written by the author Ronda and David Armitage.
Will Mrs Grinling will ever stop the greedy seagulls eating the lighthouse keeper's lunch? And will greedy Mr Grinling ever stop snacking?

Coronation celebrations
What a busy week we’ve had in KS1, celebrating the king’s coronation! We wrote invitations, inviting the school to our coronation party. We made royal sandwiches, put on our fancy crowns and enjoyed a picnic outside. In art, we used lots of materials to make a collage of King Charles. We loved having Paul Cookson come into school and share some of his famous poems. We imagined what it would be like to be king for the day and even wrote some of our very own poems.
Coronation art
This week, we have been continuing the coronation celebrations during our Art lessons! We have begun to make Union Jack collages and our very own crowns!
Making sandwiches
Is there anything better than a jam sandwich? On Friday afternoon Year 1 made their own jam sandwiches, using instructions written in our Literacy lessons! We had so much fun, and they tasted so much better knowing that our excellent instructions helped us to make them! A very big thank you to Mrs Shaw for bringing us all our ingredients!
Number skills
This week in Year 1 we have been refining our number skills, and practicing our partitioning skills using our base 10. The children really enjoyed the opportunity to get ‘hands-on’ with their maths work!
Seasonal changes
We have had a great first week back in both Year 1 classes! We have been learning about seasonal changes, and have spent some time outdoors on a spring walk, observing what we could see as we progress through the season of spring!
