After School Clubs

In Year 2, we have Gymnastics, Craft and Science Club. In Gymnastics Club, we have been learning to balance, travel and jump safely. In Craft Club, we have been getting messy with paints and creative with cross stitching. In Science Club, we have been planting and investigating. Take a look at the fun we are having!

DT

In DT, we designed our own summer vegetable soup. We taste tested a range of vegetables from the garden and made a list of the ones we liked and disliked.

We then designed what we wanted our soup to look and taste like. We picked four of our favourite vegetables and thought about how to prepare them. While making our soup we carefully cut, chopped and peeled the vegetables. The best part was tasting it at the end. We all agreed it was delicious!

Number Day

We celebrated Number Day by dressing up to represent different numbers. Some of us wore football tops and lots of us made our own t-shirts. They looked amazing!

We had such a fun day, taking part in a number hunt, number games, making number hats, playing number bingo and dancing to our favourite number songs.

PSHE

In PSHE, we have been looking at how to take care of our environment. We celebrated Earth Day and came up with ideas with how we can help. We decided to go on a litter pick. We were shocked at just how much rubbish we collected!

We Love to Read

We love to read in weird and wonderful places. This month our reading challenge was to read as many books as we could at home and in school. The winners this month were Umah Ahmed, Ellie Conlin and Maisie and Millie Dunlop! Between them, they read a staggering 100 books! Wow! We were so impressed. Who will be our winners for May? We can’t wait to find out.

Science

In Science, we have been learning about plants and what they need to grow. We identified the parts of a plant and found out about their functions. We were amazed to find out that we eat flowers, fruits, stems, leaves and roots! We sequenced the life cycle of a plant and identified trees and plants in our school grounds using ID sheets. We collected our findings in a tally chart then presented them as a pictogram. We compared deciduous and evergreen trees and talked about how plants change through the seasons. We carried out an enquiry into the best conditions for germination, making careful observations of what happened to the seeds. We planted our own beans and watched the beanstalks grow over several weeks then measured them to see how tall they had grown. We learned that plants need sunlight and to be watered regularly.
