Parent Craft

We invited our parents and carers in to do some Easter activities with us. We made some Easter Crafts and coloured by number to create lovely pictures. It was a fab afternoon!

Red Nose Day

To celebrate Red Nose Day Year 2 took part in a number of activities. We made pom pom’s using wool, decorated cakes to sell, decorated red noses using different materials to collage, told some jokes and learnt a dance routine. We have had a busy couple of days but we thoroughly enjoyed it all.

Visit from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution

This week, we had a visit from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, they came into school to talk to us about water safety. We learnt about staying safe around and water and what do if we were in trouble at the beach. We dressed up and took part in some fun activities.

World Book Day 2019

On Thursday 7th March 2019 it was World Book Day. We celebrated this by going to the bookshop called Waterstones. We took part in storytelling, making bookmarks and writing book reviews of our favourite books. We then bought a book from Waterstones by using our World Book Day vouchers. It was so much fun!

National Story Telling Week

To celebrate National Story Telling Week we chose a story and made a story basket for it. Crimson Class chose Silly Billy by Anthony Browne. We read the story and discussed why we liked the story.  We then made a list of what we wanted to put in our story basket and made all the props. We enjoyed the story so much we read some other Anthony Browne stories this week too. Ruby Class chose The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and Maroon chose Whatever Next by Jill Murphy.

Fire Pit

We’ve been learning about the houses in The Great Fire of London so in DT we built houses using paper and straws. We then took these houses to the school’s Fire Pit where Mrs. Curle put them on the burning fire. The flames were huge and we saw how quickly fire can destroy something if it’s not made out of a strong material. As a treat we made s’mores which were delicious! Thank you Mrs. Curle - it was a fantastic experience!

Police

Gail, a Community Police Officer, came to school to speak to us about keeping safe on the streets and stranger danger. It was very interesting and we had the opportunity to ask lots of questions too. Gail let us try on some Police uniform and use the handcuffs. Mia even arrested Miss Mohammed!

Judo

We were lucky enough to take part in a Judo taster session. We wore judo jackets and learnt some basic Judo skills. We were shown how to wrestle our partners to the floor, wrestle while standing and we learnt how to get behind our opponent and lift them up. What a fun morning!

Gymnastics

Year 2 took part in a Gymnastics session at the Raich Carter alongside children from Hudson Road Primary School and Hill View Primary School It was a fun afternoon using gymnastics skills on the trampoline, the high & low beam and on the floor.

Learning from Home

I wrote a set of instructions for making bread.

I made a new bakery for Thomas Farriner.

Fire station

On Tuesday 22nd January Year 2 visited the Fire Station. We learnt lots of interesting facts and looked at all the equipment firemen use. We heard the fire bell and some of us sat in the fire engine too. It was a very fun day!

Science

In Science we’ve been learning about materials. We did a science experiment to see which materials were absorbent and non-absorbent. We made predictions and then tested foil, a metal spoon, a sponge, newspaper, cotton wool, a tea towel and a plastic cup.

Rockets

We followed instructions to make rockets and then decorated them using paint, glitter and tissue paper for the fire.

DT

We designed a fruit pizza deciding on what toppings we wanted and then followed instructions to make it. We ate it and it was delicious! We then evaluated it and discussed what we would change to make it better next time.
