Year 1 Jubilee Day
Year 1 have had such a busy week celebrating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee! We have taken part in so many jubilee themed activities. We have written out invitations to the jubilee party in literacy. In DT, we have designed and made our own jubilee pudding (it was yummy!). In Art, we have created our own royal crowns and union jack flags. We also had a jubilee disco and a special ice cream treat to celebrate the day.
Broom House Farm
This week year 1 went on a visit to Broom House Farm. We had a fantastic time! We had the opportunity to see so many farm animals including goats, cows, sheep, pigs and ducks. After lunch, we explored the forest and searched for fairies! We also went down the zip line- it was so much fun! The next day we wrote about our trip in literacy, take a look at our amazing writing…
RSE
Year 1 have been discussing the meaning of the word ‘stereotypes’ as part of RSE this week. We discussed how we are able to make our own choices about our likes and dislikes and we also talked about how we are able to choose what job we would like to do when we grow up. We read some facts about stereotypes and sorted them into true and false, Renea said “Blue is not just for boys because I like blue!” We drew a picture of what job we would like to do when we grow up and discussed how both boys and girls can do the job and identified what key skills are needed for different jobs.
Maths
In maths Year 1 have been making equal groups of objects of 2,5 and 10. We were able to find the total amount of objects by counting in 2s, 5s or 10s. We have also been using arrays to arrange and count objects in columns and rows, to develop our understanding of multiplication.
Animal groups
In Science, Year 1 have been learning about different animal groups- fish, mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. We named animals and identified which group each animal belonged to. We also identified where the animals lived and what foods they ate.
