Roald Dahl Day

Reception

For Roald Dahl day 2019 we watched Newsround and found out some interesting facts about Roald Dahl. We discussed what facts we had found out and we talked about what Roald Dahl stories we liked the best, Charlie and the Chocolate factory, and Matilda were the most popular. We had never read the story The Enormous Crocodile before and we were very interested in finding out what it was about so we read some of the story after lunch.  We completed a range of Roald Dahl themed activities throughout the day including, drawing a chocolate factory, designing our own pet crocodile and practising some Roald Dahl themed pencil control activities.

Year 1

On Friday 13th September, we celebrated Roald Dahl Day. We looked at lots of books that he wrote and read ‘The Enormous Crocodile’. We acted out parts of the story, using puppets that we made. We also practised our cutting skills, making our own enormous crocodiles with lots of sharp teeth, made a wanted poster and designed a meal for the crocodile.

Year 6

To celebrate Roald Dahl Day 2019, in year 6 we had a very eventful day.

We read extracts from The BFG, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and some of our other favourite Roald Dahl stories. We also created our very own dream catchers to place on our bedroom windows- they were very colourful and eye-catching.

We imagined what it would be like to own a chocolate factory- like Willy Wonka- and designed our own in Lego. Inside the factory, we had chocolate rivers, marshmallow mountains and fudge fountains. They were like castles of dreams.

We also researched the author and found out ten facts about Roald Dahl. We made our own pocket book about him. Did you know that he wrote most of his stories in a shed at the bottom of his garden?
