Christmas Party

We had lots of fun at our Christmas party. We danced, played games and took lots of photos in out photo booth

Reception Christmas performance

A huge well done to all our reception children, what a fabulous Christmas performance. Thank you to all those that came, we hope you enjoyed!

Buddy the Elf

In Reception, we have been very lucky to have been visited by Buddy the Elf. Santa has sent him to our class, to teach him how to be kind, look after the other elves and show good manners. The children have certainly done that! Buddy has left us biscuits, chocolate coins and candy canes this week. We painted pictures for him but most definitely had the most fun playing the snow that he left for us.

Anti-bullying Week

During Anti-Bullying Week, we thought about how considering the feelings of others is important and discussed what it means to be a good friend. In groups, we created our own friendship potion to show the qualities a good friend would have. We also made our own funky friendship bracelets to share with our friends

Autumn

In Reception, we have been learning all about autumn, this half term. We have been on autumn walks looking at the changes on the natural world around us and used things we have found to create pieces of artwork. Together, we also looked at the different clothes we might wear in autumn to keep us warm.

We looked at the celebrations celebrated during in the autumn months and enjoyed learning about Diwali, the festival of light. The colourful diya lamps we made really brightened up the classroom.

Children in Need

On Children In Need day, we dressed up in spots to raise money for charity. We had a Pudsey bear themed morning, we decorated some tasty Pudsey bear biscuits, made Pudsey ears, hunted for bears in the spotty water tray, made Pudsey crafts and made Pudsey playdough models.

Physical Development

This half term, we have been developing our ball skills by throwing and catching. We began by just controlling the beanbags by balancing them on different parts of our body. After we had had lots of practice, we used a range of different balls to practise throwing to each other with confidence, precision and accuracy.

Road Safety Week

As part of Road Safety Week, we learnt how to cross the road safely and what it means to be a safe pedestrian. We discussed how it is important to cross with an adult and to stop, look and listen. “Look left and right,” said Harry.

Together, we used the small world to act out crossing the road safely and made safety posters to help others cross the road too. The lollipop lady Sue also came into Reception to talk us about how she can help us cross the road and why staying safe is so important.

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

In Reception, we really enjoy exploring new books and our favourite this half term has been We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. We have retold the story in lots of different ways, including using the small world, ordering pictures and creating our own story maps, using a mixture of materials. We even went on our own sensory bear hunt to a bear cave – “The mud was sticky on my toes,” said Obafemi.

We made bear models, using playdough and bear masks too. We also made bear cave homes for the teddy bears in our classroom, using large boxes. “My bear is all tucked in his bed,” said Nova.
