As part of our river’s topic, we visited Congburn in Edmonsley. We worked with the Wear Rivers Trust to measure the width, depth and speed of the river then we measured the size of the rocks. We then compared this middle course of the river with readings from the lower course of the River Wear. We identified that the site at Congburn was a meander and this was much slower, narrower and shallower than the lower course of the Wear. We will be able to gain first hand experiences of this next week when we visit Roker to learn more about the mouth of the river.
