ART

Year four have been looking at artwork from a project called Spirit of the Rainforest by a British artist called John Dyer and an Amazonian Indian artist called Nixiwaka Yawanawa. Their paintings represent the spiritual rebirth of a person who experiences the Yawanawa initiation into becoming a Shamen. We used pastels to recreate the bright, bold colours. This will form the background for our artwork and we are looking at faces to incorporate this into our pictures.

Literacy

As part of our work in Literacy we have been learning about fronted adverbials. To help us understand how an adverbial phrases can be used as a fronted adverbial we have been cutting up sentences. First we underlined the adverbial phrase in the sentence. Next we cut the adverbial phrase and placed it at the start of the sentence. Finally we changed the punctuation of the sentence to use a comma to signal a fronted adverbial. We are now trying hard to use these in our writing.

Design Technology

In design technology we have been learning about mechanisms such as linkages and levers. First we looked at existing examples such as books and then looked at the mechanisms that were used to make them. Next we completed three focussed tasks to make different mechanisms and explain why some examples wouldn’t work.
