Spring 2019 Gallery and Work

Year 6 will be learning about The Maya which is an ancient civilisation. Our topic web shows the areas of learning we will cover during the Spring Term

Year 6 really enjoyed reciting their poem about a Rapping Gran!

Well done to some of the pupils from Emerald Class who have received certificates and awards in recognition of their punctuality and attendance, this year.

Huge Congratulations to you all!!!

Well done to some of the pupils from Olive Class who have received certificates and awards in recognition of their punctuality and attendance, this year.

Huge Congratulations to you all!!!

The Year 6 staff were delighted to be reunited with past pupils, who after a successful time at Valley Road continue to flourish, completing their A-Levels at Southmoor Academy.

RNLI Visit

There's nothing quite like the buzz of being near the water, but, in excitement, it's easy to forget about staying safe.  Lifeguards from the RNLI have been in school teaching us how to stay safe.

Remember to:

Stop and think- what dangers do you see?

Don't be caught out on your own- STAY TOGETHER

If you fall in, stay calm and FLOAT to live

Someone in trouble?  CALL 999 OR 112 and tell them that someone's in trouble in the water

World Book Day 2019

Year 6 have enjoyed a workshop, at Sunderland City Library to celebrate World Book Day 2019.

We took part in a ten minute silent read after we had chosen our favourite books.

Please find more photographs of us learning and reading on Ffi.

Basketball Competition

Some of our Year 6 pupils have recently taken part in a basketball competition. We did exceptionally well and reached the final game of the competition. Well done to all pupils who participated!

Art

We are exploring pattern and symmetry in art. William Morris’ work has inspired us to create patterns of our own, which we will apply to our Maya prints on fabric.

Literacy

Formal letter writing in Year 6.

We are learning about audience and purpose and have begun to apply this to our writing. We have studied various examples of informal and formal writing genres. Here is some of our most recent work.

Food Tasting

We enjoyed sampling some traditional Mayan delicacies such as avocado and tortilla wraps. As you can see by our facial expressions, not all of us were impressed.

Ancient Maya work

We researched information from Ancient Maya culture to create a non-chronological report.

Well done to Keane on his fishing achievements
