Art

In art, we have been learning about print work. We studies the art of Gustav Klimt and identified features and styles he includes. We noticed that he uses patterns and similar colours in his pieces. As we are studying the Egyptians at the moment, we decided to use gold in our work similar to Klimt. First we designed a print using shapes and patterns. Then we used string on card to create our prints and tried to make a print. To improve this for our final piece, we realised it worked best when we painted the string rather than put the print block in the paint. We were really pleased with our final pieces.

Cricket

During our P.E sessions, we have had a cricket coach work with us to develop our skills in batting, bowling and catching. The children showed excellent teamwork and should be very proud of themselves.

Literacy

As part of our topic on ancient Egypt, we became archaeologists for the day and we discovered ancient scrolls buried in sand. These scrolls had ancient Egyptian writing on them, which are known as hieroglyphs. We translated these to discover facts about the mummification process. This will help us in our Literacy lessons where we are going to write an explanation text about mummification.

Number Day

Year Five enjoyed Number Day where we solved problems, played number games and completed tasks around the room. First, we created a hat including numbers represented in various ways and symbols such as squared and cubed. Then, posters were located in different areas of the class and we used these clues to complete the tasks. We also used the numbers from famous football kits within some of our tasks. Our favourite part was competing against each other in our Times Table challenge and number card games.

PHSE

As part of PHSE, we spent some time outside on the school grounds to appreciate nature. We collected leaves, flowers and sticks to create a piece of art work in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. Finally, we worked as teams to build a den.

Science

In science, we have been learning about materials and their uses. We have carried out investigations and fair tests to find out which materials dissolve and if changes can be reversible.

Tennis

Year Five took part in tennis during P.E. We had a coach who showed us different ways to improve our skills and techniques through lots of fun games. We have really enjoyed these sessions each week.
