Christmas In Year 5

In Year 5 leading up to Christmas, the children have been taking part in lots of fun activities from making table decorations for our school Christmas dinner to enjoying our Christmas party. Take a look at some of the fun events we have taken part in below.

Christmas Tree

In Year 5, we have been using our Design and Technology skills to create our class Christmas tree. We joined different material togethers using different methods and decorated our trees to make our school look festive.

Topic

Remembrance Day

Leading up to Remembrance Day, the children in Year 5 learnt about the importance of Remembrance Day. We each designed our very own poppy using a range of different patterns that we then put together to make a wreath that we lay down in school to show our respect.

Maths

During the Christ-Maths challenge in Year 5, the children were given a box of After Eight chocolates per table to use to create their very own Maths problems. After creating their Maths problems in small groups related to number, perimeter and area, they then shared and swapped these problems and had ago at solving them which showcased some very competitive Christ-Maths problem solving from the children.

D.T Project

As part of our whole school D.T project we were asked to design, create and then evaluate Christmas decorations using different materials. We researched different decoration designs and then created our own on our design sheet. We then discussed what different materials we could use that would match our year group skill of being able to join through stitching two pieces of material together.  Take a look at our amazing decorations.

Stem Workshop

As part of our school outreach programme, the children in Year 5 had the opportunity to take part in a fantastic Stem Workshop about Civil Engineering. During the session, the children explored what Civil Engineering was and how it is a vital part of the day-to-day things we do. The children took part in a range of activities in groups which became very competitive.

Children in Need

During Children in Need, the children donated £1.00 to come dressed in spots to raise money for charity. Throughout the day, the children took part in a range of tasks and activities that helped them understand why it was important to donated money  but also understand where the money goes and how it helps children across the country.

Art Project

As part of our whole school art project of ‘painting’, Year 5 chose to focus on Pablo Picasso and create our very own art work in the style of Pablo Picasso but link it to our Anglo-Saxon topic. The children really enjoyed exploring a range of Pablo Picasso’s art work and identify the different media used within his art pieces and discussing what they liked about each art piece. The children then worked in pairs to recreate a famous Pablo Picasso style art piece but with the focus being of famous Anglo-Saxon Kings or Artefacts.

Anti Bullying Week

In Year 5 this week, we have been celebrating ‘Anti-Bullying Week’. Did you know, Anti-Bullying week is an annual event?  It takes place in the UK in the third week of November. It aims to raise awareness about bullying of children and young people, in schools and elsewhere, and to highlight ways of preventing it and responding to it.  Each year there is a different theme and this year the theme is ‘One Kind Word.’

Take a look at some of the Anti-Bullying activities the Year 5 children have been completing throughout the week.
