Jubilee 2022

This week has been a royal extravaganza! We have enjoyed learning lots about the monarchy and creating a royal family tree. We took part in the Queen’s pudding competition, designing and making a cake fit for a Queen (the best part of this was enjoying it during our afternoon tea). We loved dressing up and celebrating 70 years of the Queen together.

Art

In Art, we have been working very hard on our drawing skills. We have been focusing on line, tone, texture and shape. We used some of these skills to decorate our own Greek vases. Take a look at some of the amazing patterns.

History

In History, we have been learning about democracy. We learned that the Ancient Greeks were the inventors of democracy. In groups, we had different questions to consider including ‘Should Pandora open the box?’, ‘Did Icarus make the right decision?’ and ‘Who had the hardest decision to make?’

Once we had all voted, we took part in a class debate. It was so much fun to hear opinions from both sides. We then voted for the God we would want to see rule the Greek world, Aphrodite won by a landslide!

RSE

In RSE, we have been talking about challenging stereotypes. We looked at gender stereotypes. Gender equality means that boys and girls should have equal rights and opportunities. We read some statements and matched them to stereotypes of boys or girls, we also looked at some scenarios and talked about our opinions. After lots of interesting discussions we agreed that we are all different and we can respect other people's likes and dislikes, even when they are different from our own.

Tyne and Wear Active Five

Year 3  took part in the Tyne and Wear Active Five event, as part of our Sports Week in school. We loved exercising every day and completing lots of jobs to do with keeping fit and healthy. One of our jobs was to find out how the Olympics began back in Greece. We then taste tested food from around the world and designed a meal for a Greek Athlete.  It was great tasting new food, however not many of us liked the olives!
