Beach Visit

Year 1 had the most fabulous day at the beach. We enjoyed playing games, building sandcastles, swimming in the sea and a delicious ice cream at the end of the day.

“It was the best day ever!” Ousmane

Good Luck England

Year 1 are sending lots of luck to the England team! It's coming home...

Seaside Crafts

We love to make things! Not only is it lots of fun but it lets us be creative and use our imagination. As well as developing our fine motor skills- cutting, gluing, threading and modelling. We have made seaside creatures, ice creams and flags for our sandcastles.

Lighthouses

In DT, we have been learning about free standing structures. After reading ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ we decided to make our own lighthouse using junk modelling. We used old boxes, tubes and pieces of card.

We talked about which materials would be the strongest and different techniques, we could use to make our lighthouse stand on its own.

Finally, we evaluated our lighthouses. We discussed what materials we had used and if they were strong enough for our structures to stand on their own.

“I cut a fringe to make mine stand on its own.”- Lailah

Making Sandwiches

After reading ‘The lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’, we decided to design and make our own healthy lighthouse sandwiches. We then made our own ‘How to make a Sandwich’ instruction book in literacy.

History

In history, we have been looking at books, videos, photographs, pictures and artefacts to find out about seaside holidays in the past.

We sorted images and objects, relating to the seaside into past and present and talked about what has changed and what is still the same.

All about Animals

In Science, we have been learning about animals. We were able to identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We identified which animals you might find at the seaside. We talked about what animals eat and were able to say whether they are carnivores or herbivores.

We looked closely at a seabass and were able to describe the structure of the fish. We made a split pin crab and were able to compare the structure of a fish and a crab. We talked about what was the same and what was different.

Human Body

In Science, we have been learning about the human body. We drew around each other and were able to identify and label parts of our bodies.

We learnt about our senses and were able to identify which part of our bodies are associated with each sense. We used our senses to identify what we could see, smell, hear, taste and feel at the seaside.
