Great Bug Hunt 2019

This week, we took part in the ‘Great Bug Hunt’. We went outside to look for lots of different bugs in our school grounds. It was really fun looking carefully through the microscope at all the different creatures. We talked about their habitats and why they like to live in them places.

Athletics

We took part in an athletics festival with other schools. We learnt lots of skills such as, throwing, catching, running and jumping. We had lots of fun and made new friends.

Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Week

During ‘Healthy Body, Healthy Mind’ week. We have been learning about how to stay healthy. We took part in lots of activities. We sorted different fruits and vegetables that live above and below the ground. We took part in exercises, created our own active pot and talked about the importance to get a good night's sleep. We designed and made fruit smoothies, then evaluated them, to see what we would change. They were yummy!

Skipping Day

Year One took part in a sponsored skip to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and equipment for our playground. We did lots of different skipping activities such as a skipping replay, long ropes and freestyle skipping. We had lots of fun!

Geography

In geography, we have been looking at maps. We created large scale maps of our small world area. We learnt that a birds-eye view is a view of an object from above. We then plotted out key features of a farm using north, south, east and west.

Broom House Farm Visit

Year One had a fantastic day at Broom House Farm! When we got to the farm, we looked for signs of spring in the orchard and identified different fruit trees by their leaves and flowers. Farmer Jayne told us about the swallows that visit the farm every year at this time. Can you remember where they fly from? We visited the turkey, ducks, pigs, piglets and goats. We helped Farmer Jayne by collected eggs from the hens to sell in her farm shop. We saw lots of sheep and lambs. We even got to see lambs being born, one of the sheep had twins. After lunch, we went into the adventure forest and completed the fairy door trail. They were tricky to find! We played in the forest on the slide, zip line, tunnels and lots more.
