Halloween Party

The Gingerbread Man

We read the story ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We acted out parts of the story using masks and puppets. We also used the cards to order the story and wrote what the characters might say in speech bubbles. In Literacy, we created our own story map.

Little Red Riding Hood

We read the story ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. We acted out parts of the story using masks, puppets and the small world area. We also used the cards to order the story. In Science, we investigated to see which materials were the best for Little Red Riding Hood’s coat. We talked about what foods Little Red Riding Hood might have had in her basket and decided to make jam sandwiches to put in our baskets that we have made.

The Three Little Pigs

This week we have been reading ‘The Three Little Pigs.’ We went outside and worked together to make dens for the Three Little Pigs. We then acted out the story using our dens and props in the classroom. What does the Big Bad Wolf say?

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

We have been reading ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. We talked about what type of character Goldilocks is and how Baby Bear felt when he came home.

“I would be very sad!”- Jayden

“Goldilocks is bad she slept in the bed and broke the chair.”- Reeva

In DT, we designed a healthy porridge and wrote a list of things we would need. We used knifes carefully to cut the fruit, then measured out the oats and milk and made our porridge on the stove.

Science

In Science, we have been learning about different materials. We are able to name an object and match it to the correct material. We have also been learning about their properties and are beginning to use words to describe each material. We wanted to find out which material is the strongest and carried out an experiment. We made houses for the three little pigs from different materials such as Lego, playdough, straws and paper. We then tested our houses, the big bad wolf came and tried to blow them down. The hairdryer made a good wolf! Which material was the strongest? What did you build your house out of?

“My house was so strong, it didn’t move.”- Ella

“Lego was the strongest!”- Ousmane

Computing

In computing, we decided we were going to catch the Big Bad Wolf. We used the bee bots and dressed them up as the Three Little Pigs to help us. We learnt how to use the bee bots and that an algorithm is a set of instructions. We are beginning, to be able to programme the bee bots and will continue to practise this over the coming weeks, learning more about algorithms.
