Juntos!

We have been learning about Spain as part of the Juntos project throughout school. We have looked at Spanish festivals, traditions and food. We located Spain on a map and could name that it is within the continent of Europe. We now know that Spanish is the language spoken and Madrid is the capital of Spain. We also looked at the work of Pablo Picasso and created our own portraits and pictures using his work as influence. At the end of the week, we tried some churros and they were delicious!

Seaside visit

On Monday, Rainbow Room visited Roker beach. We had a lovely walk along the pier to the lighthouse and discussed how it is similar to the one in the story we are reading. While we were at the end of the pier, we were lucky enough to see several dolphins! They were even jumping out of the water as if they were putting on a show for us. We went down onto the beach and made sandcastle, then ended the morning with a delicious ice cream! The children had a great morning and we are looking forward to recapping this visit in our work over the coming weeks.

Literacy

In Rainbow Room, we made 'iced sea biscuits' like Mrs Grinling makes in 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'. We thought about the different steps we needed to take and we are going to use the pictures from the morning to help us write a set of instructions.

Art

In our Art lessons, we have been looking at the work of Wassily Kandinsky. We started by looking at some of his artwork and learning about how he created his pieces. We discussed the pieces, how they made us feel, and if we liked or did not like them. After that, we used coloured shapes to create our own versions of his work. Next, we looked at the primary colours and explored mixing these to make different colours and adding black and white to make different shades. We used the primary colours and mixing of these to paint a seaside picture. Finally, we used the colours and our knowledge of Kandinsky to create our seaside picture inspired by his work.
