All of our children participate in 2 hours of curriculum physical activity every week. This is carried out in P.E lessons, primary movement, wake up, shake up, musical journeys and even in our handwriting. Every year we receive funding from School Sports Premium. We use this funding to help improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision in our school. We are very lucky to have P.E coaches in most dinner times, where we play games and do yoga. We have a wide variety of after school clubs, where we provide opportunities for the children to try new sporting activities such as cheerleading, judo and military bootcamp. Children from Years One to Six, go swimming for a full term, either at Raich Carter or Southmoor. In our school there are a huge range of different sporting activities available to all of the children, allowing them to experience a range of sport to support them in leading a healthy lifestyle and keeping healthy.
This year we have created our own sports cluster with our neighbour schools Grangetown and Hudson Road. Every term, children from each year group take part in school games competitions. The competitions involve various events including cricket, tennis and rounders. Not only do these events support the children in developing their skills in different sports but it also strengthens their teambuilding skills, perseverance and mental wellbeing. In 2017 we were awarded gold in the School Games Mark, gold in the Sunderland Active Charter and we have recently signed up to be a part of the Alliance Activ8.
