Summer 2021 - Gallery and Work

Eid

This week we have been celebrating Eid. We made our friends who were off school celebrating Eid a greetings card. We decorated the front of the card with fireworks and inside we wrote a message to them, using our phonics skills to spell tricky words and we segmented and wrote sounds in unfamiliar words. We also designed our own Mehndi hand patterns, we included lots of detail in our designs and copied some of the intricate patterns.

Reception Make, Bake, Create Club

The children have been making jigsaws in the Make Bake Create club this week.  They could choose to make a jigsaw of whatever they wanted but most of them chose an image of a favourite character from the internet.  We used the Publisher program and a tool called ‘Picture Placeholder’ that allowed the children to find an image they wanted to use. This ensured the picture was the same size as the jigsaw template. They had to carefully cut out the template and the picture then glue them together. We then laminated them and cut out the jigsaw template.

The children really enjoyed this activity and found it quite a challenge to put the pieces back together. Have you had a go at making their jigsaw yet?  I think we might be making more jigsaws in the future!

Super Sentence Writing

In phonics, we have been learning phase 3 sounds. We have had a go at writing a sentence using phase 3 words. We have been working really hard to ensure that we use finger spaces correctly and that we use a full stop at the end of a sentence. We will now have a go at writing sentences independently, in different areas of the classroom.

Reception Make, Bake, Create Club

The children enjoyed designing their own breakfast cereals this week.

From a selection of familiar cereals and dried fruits, the children created their own cereal recipe by scooping spoonfuls of different ingredients into one cereal packet.

We talked about what they eat for breakfast and how important it is that we have a good, healthy breakfast before school on a morning.

The children looked at lots of different cereal boxes and packaging, before coming up with some ideas of their own. We had ideas some great ideas for cereal names too. Rainbow Cereal, Sonic Cereal, Olaf Cereal, Superhero Cereal. The children even assembled their own cereal boxes from cuboid nets. They were looking forward to storing their cereal boxes alongside their cereals at home until they used them.

I am really looking forward to finding out what the children think of their new cereal creations! We might have invented a new brand!

Planting seeds

We have been planting seeds for our outdoor garden. We read a fact book on how to plant seeds and what seeds need in order to grow. We filled our pot with soil and planted the seeds. We remembered that the book we read said that seeds need sun and water to grow, we filled the watering can so we could water them and found a nice sunny spot to put them in. We are so excited for the seeds to sprout- hopefully the sun comes out to help them grow!
