Summer 2021 - Gallery and Work
Over the last few weeks, we have introduced cookery and food tasting to the children. Some of the things we have made include, scrambled egg on toast, eggy bread and fairy cakes. We discussed what ingredients we needed and where they come from. Darcy told everyone that eggs come from "chickens" and milk from "cows." Miss. Potts asked ‘do we get them from the animals or somewhere else?’ The children knew we had to buy them from the shops. We explored the eggs together and discussed the texture, using descriptive words such as, 'smooth, cold, delicate, fragile, spotty'. The children helped to crack the eggs into the bowl. We talked about the inside of the egg, how it looked "slimy" and labelled the 'yolk' and 'white'. The children added milk and everyone had a turn at whisking the ingredients. While the eggs were cooking the children made toast and buttered it independently. Some of the children thoroughly enjoyed the scrambled egg. They have learnt new skills and developed their knowledge and understanding by building on what they already knew. All of the children have thoroughly enjoyed cookery! They were eager to participate, listened to instructions, took turns and encouraged one another to have a go!
