friday feeling

Get that Friday Feeling !

Every Friday Mrs Curle takes the wheel in one of our mini buses and we go and explore our fantastic area.

We travel around our local region and discover the fabulous places  we have right on our doorstep....

Durham Wildlife Trust

This week it was the turn of some year 3 children to take part in a Friday Feeling adventure. We met Michelle from Durham Wildlife Trust at Rainton Meadows, who talked to us about the Meadows.  We were all amazed at how much wildlife there could be spotted around the Meadow which is only a short journey away from school.

We took bird identification sheets and binoculars out to the bird hides.  We spotted lots of birds and even a weasel.  It was a very cold morning so we returned to the centre where we learnt the bird calls of five different birds, we even sang a bird chorus.

Our final activity was to make bird feeders with seeds, dry fruit and lard.  We brought the feeders back to school and have hung them in our wildlife garden.

We hope you enjoy looking at our photographs.

Steve’s Animal Ark

Steve’s Animal Ark was our next Friday Feeling. Steve brought into school lots of his mini beasts as well as some more exotic creatures.  The children loved handling the animals and learning about how Steve looks after them and what he feeds them.

Look at our photographs, they are amazing!

Friday 20th January – Visit to Castle Eden Dene

This week our ‘Friday Feeling’ took us on an adventure to Castle Eden Dene where we met Steve from the Durham Wildlife National Park and Louise from Durham Heritage Coast.

Steve explained that we were going to explore the Dene and that he was glad we all had sensible walking shoes on as the paths were very muddy.

The walk was very interesting and we learnt lots about the local wildlife, the story of the devils toe and the history of the Dene.

When we returned back to our mini bus we were all very tired and had very muddy wellies.  It was a lovely morning to be out walking and enjoying the fresh air.

Snowdog Trial

This Autumn term sees Valley Road pupils hunting for Snow dogs all over the North East.  Friday Feeling children log on their maps the dogs they have spotted. We have had great fun spotting the beautifully decorated dogs, especially our own which is located in the Sunderland Winter Gardens.

We aim to find all Snow dogs before the trail ends in early December.

Friday Feeling 13th May 2016

Year 3 pupils travel back in time.

A group of Friday Feeling stars, travelled back in time. They became pupils at the Donnison School in Hendon.   The children had to dress in traditional school uniforms and take part in a Victorian style school day.
